Deer Urine Shelf Life and Storage Tips

We are committed to providing the freshest and highest quality deer scent available on the market. However, it’s important to understand that even the best deer scent products have a limited shelf life.

To help you make the most of our product and achieve optimal results in the field, we’ve compiled some helpful tips and facts about deer urine and the best way to store it. By following these guidelines, you can extend the lifespan of your deer scent and achieve better results in the field.

Three Factors That Lead to Degradation of Deer Urine

  1. Bacteria Growth: Natural urine can attract bacteria, leading to spoilage.

  1. Air Exposure: Once opened, oxygen degrades the scent compounds, making it less effective.

  1. Heat and Sunlight: Warm temperatures and direct sunlight accelerate spoilage.

How Long Does a Bottle of Deer Urine Last?

Deer urine has a limited shelf life, and its effectiveness decreases over time due to factors such as temperature, air exposure, and sunlight. Generally, deer urine remains effective for about six months. After this period, it starts to break down, often turning a brownish color and developing an unpleasant odor.

For example, a bottle of deer urine that is one year old may retain only about 50 percent of its original potency, and this effectiveness will continue to decline with age. While older deer urine can still be used, it is unlikely to be as effective and could potentially scare deer away.

Identifying Spoiled Deer Urine

A simple smell test can help determine the quality of deer urine. Fresh deer urine has a nice, musky smell, while spoiled urine tends to have a strong, unpleasant odor similar to a sewer. The color is also important. Fresh urine should be yellow or a light, cider-like shade. (Pictured Above)

If you notice a dark or brown color, this indicates that the urine has broken down/spoiled and has lost most of its effectiveness.

Tips for Keeping Deer Urine Fresh

Store in a Cool, Dark Place: A refrigerator or dark cabinet helps slow spoilage.

Seal It Well: Ensure the cap is tightly closed to minimize air exposure.

Replace Annually: For best results, buy a new bottle each year.

What makes us different from others?

We take quality seriously. At the end of each deer season, we recall and destroy any leftover natural deer urine products, and we pour fresh deer urine at the start of each new season. While many deer scent companies claim to offer the freshest deer lures, we let the results speak for themselves—our proof shows up directly in the hunting field.

Restrictions

Certain states and wildlife agencies have implemented restrictions or outright bans on the use of natural deer urine and scent products. We recommend to consult your state’s guidelines to ensure legal compliance when using our products.
